We visited Coney Island on a sunny Friday afternoon in late August with just one purpose: we wanted to see Coney Art Walls.
Coney Art Walls is an outdoor, free museum right in Coney Island running all summer and closing on Labor Day weekend. It features artists from all over the world and it is a fantastic way to spend an afternoon. You can walk around, get food (¡Hola Patacón Pisao!) and even listen to some live music. A word of advice: maybe bring your own water, we are not sure if it was just that day but they just had small Fiji water bottles and they were $3/each!
The murals are impressive and this year they even had Lee Quiñones, the Puerto Rican native who is among the most important artists to emerge from the New York City subway art movement. If you have had the chance to visit Wynwood in Miami, we are sure you’ll find some similarities.
This installation adds something very special to Coney Island, on one side you have the boardwalk and on the other the amusement park for a complete afternoon of fun.
Don’t take our word for it, you can visit next year during summer, just take the D, F, N, or Q to Coney Island.
